It's the Working!
By Jim Williams
Editor's Note: We all have thoughts — some good - some bad, but nonetheless they are thoughts. Our thoughts should be reflected upon and dealt with biblically (Rom. 12:1-3; Gal. 6:3; Phil. 3:12-17; Phil. 4:8-9; 2 Pet. 3:1, etc.). ‘Just Thinkin Out Loud' (spelling of ‘thinkin'' is purposeful) is a series of thoughts that are being made public. You may or may not agree with all of the thoughts you read in this series, but it will help all of us to discuss them — out loud. The hope of the author and editors at IIIM is that this will assist all of us to begin personal reflection upon our own thoughts and compare them with God's perspective in Holy Scripture. Readers are encouraged to use small discussion groups and/or our RPM forum for any irenic discussion(s) of these specific thoughts and others they may bring about. If world history has an abundance of anything, it is overflowing with demonstrations of Divine Power. It has a long list of situations designed for evil purposes turned into good ones. Romans 8:28 brings this out when it says that all things WORK for the good of all that love Him and are called according to His purposes.
A rapist attacked a young woman, and she later gave birth to a girl. Instead of forever letting that hang over her that girl, Ethel Waters, became a Gospel singer and was heard at many a Billy Graham Crusade in the 70's. Starting off as a nightclub singer, she was later touched in her heart and gave her voice to the One who had touched her.
Adolph Hitler wanted to evangelize the world with Nazism. He planned and built a huge broadcast center near the Mediterranean Sea. But before he could ever use those powerful transmitters and massive towers, Nazi Germany was conquered. The broadcast center became the central point for reaching Europe with the Gospel under the direction of Trans World Radio.
Bad things happening, bad things being put in motion doesn't always mean bad effects coming out eventually. God allows the evil people to do their bidding and then steps in at His appointed time and gets what He wants out of it. So the bad thing gets turned into a good one in His time. The verse doesn't use the word happen; it uses the word WORK, implying the passage of time.
The outworking of Jesus Christ dying on a cross was that sinful people could get a ticket to Heaven. Just because He lets people start bad, doesn't mean they're going to end up that way. Ethel Waters didn't profess faith as a child and stay that way from then on. But she ended her days on that note.
It's not the start that matters, its how it turns out- It's the Working!
Tell me what you think, I'm just thinkin out loud!
